What Is Neuropathy?

What is Neuropathy?

Neuropathy is a disorder of the nerves; motor, sensory and autonomic. These nerves connect the spinal cord to the muscles, skin and internal organs. Damage to these nerves usually affects the hands and feet, causing pain, numbness, tingling, weakness and balance problems. It is estimated that approximately 24 million Americans suffer from this condition.

How do I know if I have Neuropathy?

You may have neuropathy if you are experiencing one or more of the following symptoms; burning, numbness, tingling, weakness, pain or loss of balance. A thorough Neurologic Evaluation with Dr. Miller will determine if you do, or do not have neuropathy. (There have been several patients who presented to the office believing they had neuropathy, however after examination, it was determined they did not.)

How does someone develop Neuropathy?

There are multiple factors that may cause neuropathy. The most common cause is poor circulation secondary to diabetes. The second most common cause is idiopathic - which means of unknown cause. Others include; post-chemotherapy side effects, autoimmune diseases, chemical toxicity and side effects from prescribed medications.

How does this program work? What is the rate of success? Will it help me?
